This book uses the metaphor of walking to gain insight into the spiritual life. Walking is the most basic movement of the human body. For many people, walking carries no value on its own except to transit between two points. From the spiritual perspective, we can derive many benefits through the act of walking. As a spiritual discipline, walking not only has health benefits but generates different states of well-being that are good for the human soul and spirit. Walking gives us pleasure, joy, happiness, and serenity. Metaphorically speaking, walking gives us a sense that we are on a journey with God. It also helps us to know the importance of engaging our physical bodies in our spirituality. It keeps us attuned to the present moment, cultivates in us a sense of wonder in the natural world, creates an inner space in our cluttered lives, highlights the need for solitude and silence, and gives us the freedom of simplicity that the soul enjoys.

The history of Bible translation within the Catholic Church is characterized by a rich tradition of rendering the Scriptures into the language of the faith community. The CCNT features eight complete Catholic New Testaments that show the full range of expression for this central text of study, worship, prayer, and contemplation. A wide spectrum of people - including new and experienced Bible readers, homilists, and teachers - will gain from having this resource on their bookshelves. The Douay-Rheims, RSVCB, NRSVCB, and NAB are called formal equivalent translations (popularly referred to as "word-for-word" translations). This means that scholars rendered the New Testament's original language into English that is as close as possible to its original wording. The result is a translation that is particularly valuable for careful analysis of the text. Meanwhile, the JB, GNB, NJB, and Christian Community Bible represent the "thought-for-thought" school of Bible translation (technically described as dynamic or functional equivalent). This method places the priority on the intended meaning of the original vocabulary, adapting it to English syntax and grammar. Such a translation tends to be easier to read and understand. The texts are conveniently displayed on facing pages (four translations per page), with the same set of verses on each one. The order in which the translations appear on the pages demonstrates a progression in translation philosophy from formal to functional equivalency.

Madame Jeanne Guyon (1648–1717), a woman of great wisdom and worship, was filled with the richness of God’s grace as she endured hardships and abuse in her married life. Blessed with children and great earthly wealth, she suffered physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually at the hands of her spiritual leaders, imprisoned unjustly for her simple yet solid faith in Christ, her Divine Confidant. Trusting in her Lord, she expressed her insights in commentaries concerning the Scriptures, seeing in them the mysteries of the holy Eucharist, the sacrificial presence of her merciful Savior. Through her intercession, we are inspired to adore the Lord, uniting our suffering to his as she did.

Combining two of Keller's most popular books about Jesus, readers are invited to explore the heart of the Christian faith. King's Cross - Drawing from Mark's gospel, Keller explains how Jesus' identity as king and his purpose in dying on the cross have meaning and significance on a cosmic scale as well as for the individual. Hidden Christmas - The New Testament begins not with a dramatic narrative or lofty poetry but with a genealogy. Provocatively, Matthew's gospel includes women in Jesus' family line - something that wasn't customary in an ancient culture, where women were largely powerless and uninfluential. In this surprising take on the Christmas story, Tim Keller reveals how, by focusing on the women in Jesus' birth narratives, a colourful, scandalous, and refreshing tale of grace emerges.

One of the core messages of Sarang Shi Dae (Era of Love, or, the time of the Second Coming) is that bodies don't actually rise out of graves during the Last Days. In other words, the Book of Revelation and "End Times" prophecies are mainly not meant to be taken literally. They are allegorical expressions of the spiritual phenomenon in man during a time of God's greatest finishing-up of Scripture. Thus, the author's inspired impetus is with regards to the Word "opened in the Spirit" that is, not the literal Word of the Beginning and/or the End. Hence: "It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life" (John 6:63 WEB) Now, we must take another look at Scripture. Scripture is food for the spirit in humans. The Word that we've thus far been looking at in the flesh must be regarded and seen in the Spirit. For the spirit inside humans to change into God's world, which is Spirit, we must see be able to see and regard the Word in the Spirit. By the Word, the Holy Spirit reforms and changes us from within. The Holy Spirit opens our spiritual eyes so that we can correctly see the Truth of God, and the Holy Spirit causes us to encounter and meet God's deep place of Love. This text (the words of the Era of Love "Sarang Shi Dae") is a complete text in that it spiritually opens the deep secrets of Jesus and the cross. Through this text, one can see God's astonishing will and plan with spiritual eyes. Our hope as believers is the meeting of the Second Coming, and this happens by the Word. When we lay ourselves down and open the eyes of our spirit, we can meet God.

The author Robert M. Sutherland is an accomplished Canadian criminal and civil trial lawyer with 34 years at the bar in five provinces, having had some notable successes, changing the law nationally and provincially at various points in time. He is philosophically a moderate realist and a natural law thinker, in the tradition of the three great Western thinkers: Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas and MortImer J. Adler and a former Canadian director of the Chicago-based think-tank “Mortimer J. Adler’s Centre for the Study of the Great Ideas”. He is an evangelical Christian and a member of the United Church of Canada. This is how he would format the testimonial evidence of the various gospel writers in the court of public opinion for the purpose of assessing their individual and collective credibility and reliability and ultimately their three basic historical claims: namely, (1) Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be divine. (2) He died for that claim. (3) He rose again from the dead to establish the truth of that claim. These are purely historical matters, knowable and provable on a balance of probabilities. And to assist the reader he has provided some helpful methodologies for understanding the nature of truth, the nature of the natural moral law and the nature of historical inquiry.

Throughout the centuries, translations of the Bible have steadily improved. In general, each new translation inherits from previous ones and opens the way for later ones. While a new translation derives help from its predecessors, it should go further. The Recovery Version of the New Testament, following the precedent set by the major authoritative English versions and taking these versions as reference, not only incorporates lessons learned from an examination of others’ practices but also attempts to avoid biases and inaccurate judgments. This version, frequently guided by other versions, attempts to provide the best utterance for the revelation in the divine Word, that it may be expressed in the English language with the greatest accuracy.

Do you think commentaries can be dry, overly technical, or boring? If so, at least two things are true. First, you're right! Second, you've not read a Novel Commentary. Please consider this an invitation for cultural immersion in the first-century world of historical fiction to experience the transcription of the scrolls of Scripture. This first book in the series covering John the apostle, The Genesis of John, allows the reader to live alongside John and his amanuensis, Polycarp, while putting the Gospel account to parchment. This ten day "real-time" account provides an original outline for the Gospel based on John's references to Genesis, a new "Hebraic" translation from the Greek, and fresh scriptural observations captured within the dialogue of the five main characters. Spend over a week in Ephesus and be both entertained and illuminated by The Genesis of John!
